Mokokchung, Sep. 5 (EMN): The Ao Senden Literature Board (ASLB) under the aegis of Ao Senden launched the Ao Alphabetical words for Children “Tanurtem Tetsu Oshi Melemmelaa Angazuktsuren” (roughly translated as ‘an easy step to learn mother tongue for children’) at Mokokchung on Monday.
Watsu Mungdang president, T Arenla Longkumer, formally launched the Ao alphabet words for children in the presence of Ao Senden officials and ASLB members at Ao Senden Conference Hall.
The Watsu president underscored that Ao language was once at its lowest, however, with the establishment of ASLB, Ao language has once again gained its importance and has drastically progressed in the form of books and awareness.
With the rapid growth of technology, she said ASLB is on the forward track by launching these Ao alphabetical words which would immensely benefit the children.
Dr. L Temjen Jamir, Chairman ASLB, in his welcome address said the project was conceptualised by the board in 2015, however, due to unavoidable circumstances the project got delayed and was reactivated in 2021.
He informed that the words used in the video are excerpts from “Arok Osep” (Ao for Lexicon or Dictionary) and will be uploaded on YouTube and other digital mediums.
He further informed that the board is working to come out with the second edition of alphabetical words and more research will be initiated to change borrowed words in Ao.
