Medal galore for hill districts in Manipur Olympics

Imphal, Aug. 29 (EMN): Senapati district managed to win 13 medals including three gold, four silver and six bronze medals on the fourth day of the ongoing 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 underway at 16 venues across the state since August 26.
On Monday, wushu players from Senapati district, Hrangaolou (48kg) won silver in 48kg category while Willington and Loli Rakuyio Sanwibou Challai secured bronze medals in 65 kg and 70 kg categories respectively.
Earlier, the district bagged three gold medals in athletics-two gold by H Ngaopulou in 5000 metres (15:47:26sec) and 10,000 metres (32:55:37sec) race and one by Kushal Agustus in men’s long jump(6.53m).
The other three silver medallists of the district are H Hriipune (women’s long jump), Taiba Boniface (high jump) and Lovingson (men’s Japanese judo).
The remaining bronze medals were bagged by Rakheveio Limai (shot put), PS Kholourai (Mukna men 80 kg), Dupola Raong (46kg women’s Japanese judo) and Duni Joshophine (44kg women’s Japanese judo).
Ukhrul district has so far secured 16 bronze and 3 silver medals. The silver medals came from fencing and athletics while the bronze medals came from Judo (2), shooting (6), karatedo (1), fencing (5), athletics (1) and boxing (1).
Though the men’s football team of Churachandpur district lost to Imphal East district team in a tie break (1-3) in the final match of the Games which was played at the artificial football turf ground near Khuman Lampak sports complex, a young girl Hatnunnem Haokip from churachandpur district bagged three medals including two silver (women’s 50m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke) and one bronze (women’s 100m breaststroke) in swimming.
This 13-year-old class VIII student of Maria Montessori School in Imphal started her swimming career in 2019 after taking part in the seasonal swimming class at DM college swimming pool.
The second edition of the Manipur Olympic Games 2022 will conclude on Tuesday.
