Senapati boys win gold in Manipur Olympic Games 2022

Imphal, Aug. 27 (EMN): Two boys from Senapati district won gold medals in the men’s 5000 metre race and long jump on the second day of the 2nd edition of Manipur Olympic Games 2022.
H Ngaopulou of Liyai Khunou village and Kushal Augustus won gold in 5000 metre race and long jump respectively.
Ngaopulou, a graduate from Don Bosco College Senapati clocked 15:47:26 sec to clinch the gold, while second and third positions were won by S Samungouba (15:58:11 sec)and K Somorjit(15:31:04 sec),both from Imphal East.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Ngaopulou said he is a self-taught athlete and started participating in the state-level competitions only recently and won first positions in many events including the recently concluded state BJP’s marathon competition. He practices around two hours daily, he said.
Kushal Augustus had a jump of 6.53 ft while K Romechandra (6.23ft) and L Mangalsana (6.22ft)won second and third positions.
In women’s long jump, another athlete fro, Senapati S Hriipune(4.21) secured second position while the first and third position went to A Anjita (4.58) and A Surbala(4.14).
In men’s 100 metre race, Elabanta of Imphal West clocked 10.56 sec to secure the first position while Dawad (10.83 sec) of Imphal East and Lezakai(10.99 sec) of Kangpokpi won the second and third positions respectively.
In women’s 100 metre race, Yaisana of Imphal West district clocked 12.19 sec to win the first position while A Anjita (12.91 sec) and A Premila(13.79 sec),both from Imphal East district secured second and third positions.
It may be mentioned that around 4500 sportspersons representing all the 16 districts of Manipur are participating in the 2nd edition of Manipur Olympic Games 2022.
