Governor seeks effective implementation of central schemes

Wokha, 24 August (EMN): Nagaland Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, has called upon the department of PHED, Agriculture, Electrical, Rural Development for effective implementation of various central sponsored schemes (CSS) such as Jal Jeevan Mission, electrification to all households, Swachh Bharat Mission (toilet for all in rural areas), and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in order to achieve 100 percent target within the projected year.

Prof. Mukhi, who made his maiden visit to Wokha district on Wednesday, stated this during a short interaction with the head of offices in the DC’s office conference hall. Reviewing the CSS, he directed the deputy commissioner to closely monitor on various programmes for effective implementation to benefit the entire targeted population and ensure that non are left behind.

He also reminded the district administration to have monthly review meeting on central flagship programmes and submit detailed progress report of the district to his office on or before September 15 next.

Prof. Mukhi also urged the department of Agriculture and district administration to assist the farmers to enhance productivity, while he also called upon the financial institutions to help the entrepreneurs and farmers by extending loans to achieve their desired goals. Besides, he called upon the programme implementing agencies to encourage and promote young educated youth to venture in agriculture and allied sectors to enable them self-reliant and economically sound.

During the meeting, advisor of Law and Justice, Dr. Chumben Murry, and advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, apprised the Governor on various developmental programmes to be addressed in the district.

Agriculture officer of Wokha, R Santsu Kithan, has apprised on the need of two sub-division agriculture offices under Sanis and Ralan blocks to which the Governor took note for consideration.

Later, the governor had a close door interaction with the civil society organisations which was attended by representatives from Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union and various NGOs from the district.

Earlier in the morning, Prof. Mukhi arrived at Doyang Hydro Project and visited the scenic beauty of Doyang, where he was apprised of tourist attraction and most visited places in the district and Nagaland by the Tourism department.

Impressed with the beauty of Doyang and its potentiality for promotion of tourism, Prof. Mukhi stated that he would highlight the beauty of Doyang in every platform to promote tourism and announced to the ambassador in promoting tourism at Doyang.

He also visited the Doyang dam and held interaction with the area MLA Mhathung Yanthan and NEEPCO officials.

Prof. Mukhi also attended a short programme held at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), wherein he encouraged the students to put the nation first. The students presented a cultural dance and songs during the short programme.

To signify his visit, Prof. Mukhi also planted a tree sapling at NEEPCO guest house followed with a short briefing with NEEPCO officials and CISF personnel. He also held a meeting with NGOs of adjoining areas, village council chairmen, GBs, fishery union and land owners’ union.

The Governor was accompanied by his wife, Prem Mukhi.
