Dimapur, Aug. 14 (EMN): The NSCN/GPRN (Niki) has expressed resentment over the “raid” on the residence of its senior kilonser, L Yakub Konyak, by the Assam Rifles on August 12 without any valid reason or provocation.

MIP of NSCN/GPRN, in a press release, stated that the raid and highhandedness of the security forces has once again disturbed the peaceful atmosphere of the society. It alleged that a team of AR personnel led by one Major of 7 AR raided the residence of L Yakub Konyak at 6th Mile Area of Dimapur on August 12 at around 1 pm and ransacked the entire house for hours together till the wee hours of August 13.

It stated that the AR personnel harassed the entire family members for hours together, “thereby emotionally and mentally torturing the wife and children of the kilonser besides creating fear psychosis in the entire vicinity of the village/colony.”

“On failing to find any documents or objects that could give the AR personnel a valid reason to apprehend the kilonser, the security forces planted four country made pistols at the residence of the kilonser and branded him as a member of the NSCN-K YA despite the intervention and clarification from the Ceasefire Supervisory Board, NSCN/GPRN that L Yakub Konyak is a senior functionary of the NSCN/GPRN under the leadership of Gen. (retd) Niki Sumi and Starson Lamkang,” it stated.

It also alleged that the AR personnel rounded up the entire family members and took them to their camp in the middle of the night. It further alleged that the security forces were adamant to file FIR at Chümoukedima police station claiming that Yakub Konyak is a member of NSCN-K YA.

NSCN/GPRN stated that the security forces had cruel intention to cause harm to Konyak had it not been for timely intervention of the Ceasefire Supervisory Board.

“It’s unethical and drastic on the part of the security forces to commit such unscrupulous act when all are yearning for peace and tranquility in the land and are steadfastly striving for the same. The security forces must respect the ceasefire signed between the NSCN/GPRN and the Government of India and under which all parties concerned must adhere to the existing ceasefire,” it stated.

It further stated that the security forces must refrain themselves from resorting to senseless acts which creates apprehension in the society and unfavorable situation which are against the wishes of the people.
