Dimapur, July 30 (EMN): Governor of Nagaland, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, on Saturday stated that building of roads is fundamental to development of all other sectors of governance, and that the Jotsoma-Khonoma road will become a vital link between the farming communities in the area and provide the much-needed market linkage.

He was speaking at the flagging-off ceremony of the Jotsoma-Khonoma Border Roads Organisation (BRO) road at Khonoma.

He said that that Jotsoma – Khonoma road is expected to establish new benchmarks of functional efficiency and operational purpose for the villages and neighbouring districts.

Mukhi pointed out that the particular stretch of road should be the ‘best in the state’ and a role model for all other roads in terms of quality and completion time. He further stated that this particular BRO project will be under the supervision of Raj Bhavan.

Directing the BRO to complete the rehabilitation works by strictly adhering to the specification mentioned in the project, he appealed to the organisation to complete it in five months.

Earlier, Mukhi also commended on the natural beauty and the enormous potential of the villages, an update from the PRO Raj Bhavan stated.

He further maintained that Khonoma is gradually gaining a lot of popularity as an ideal place for adventure and nature study, and has become a model village for eco-tourism; and lauded the community for its efforts towards garnering recognition as the first Green Village in India.

He further congratulated the gathering for the attainment of 75 years of independence and appealed to the citizens to respond to the call of the prime minister by hoisting the national flag at every household for three consecutive days, starting from August 13 to the 15th.

MLA and Chairman of District Planning Development Board (DPDB) Kohima, Keneizhakho Nakhro, in his short address acknowledged the initiative of the governor on the project, stating that this special package is a remarkable achievement for the people of Jotsoma and Khonoma villages.

Nakhro also assured that the community would commit and stand to provide the best cooperation and support to the organisation and the contractors.

Briefing on the project, Officiating Chief Engineer Sewak, US Nagwansi, infomed that the improvement work of the initial stretch of 13.25 Km from Jotsoma to Khonoma was completed in 2017 but the surfacing layers have been damaged due to heavy rains and plying of heavily-loaded vehicles.

He added that PDC of this work including the ongoing three minor bridges, has been advanced to March 18, 2023, to meet the target date of inauguration given by the governor. He assured that the organisation would complete the project with highest level of quality possible and on time.

Earlier in the programme, Chairman of Khonoma Village Council delivered the welcome address, while short speeches were delivered by the Chairman of Jotsoma Village Council and President of Western Angami Public Organisation.
