Manipur COVID-19: Free precaution dose from 18-59 age group begins today

Imphal, July 14 (EMN): As per central government’s directive, the Manipur health authority has on Thursday announced that the precaution dose between the age group of 18 to 59 years in the state will be made available free of cost at all government COVID vaccination centres starting July 15 for a period of 75 days.

Informing this in a memorandum issued on Thursday, the Joint Director of Family Welfare department Dr T Manihar who is the state immunisation officer said that all those who have crossed 6 months from the date of second dose vaccination are eligible for precaution dose.

“Therefore, all districts are requested to make necessary arrangements and start the precaution dose vaccination of 18 plus population from July 15, 2022,” it said.

It may be mentioned that with the rise of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur in the past few days, the authorities here have decided to close down all schools till July 24.

The state social welfare department has also ordered that all the Anganwadi centres and Creche centres in Manipur will remain closed with immediate effect till July 24 in public interest.

On Thursday, 77 people, the highest in the last few days, tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours and registered a single day positivity rate of 13.6 percent, according official reports.

With this figure, the number of active cases has increased to 320. Of them 233 are in home isolation. The number of recovered cases in Manipur as on Thursday stands at 1,35,250.

The overall caseload in Manipur is 1,37,690.

Though no new deaths have been reported, the cumulative death toll since the virus hit the state stands at 2,120.

As per the latest update of the health department on vaccination, 29,92,986 doses including first dose of 16,00,547 second dose of 12,69,466 and precautionary dose of 1,22,973, have been administered in Manipur.

The first COVID 19 positive case in Manipur was reported on March 24, 2020 while the first death was reported on July 29 the same year.
