Dimapur, July 7 (EMN): Akato Chophi-led NSCN/GPRN has greeted the Sumi community of the occasion of ‘Tuluni’ festival celebration. It stated that ‘Tuluni’ is one of the main festivals of the Sumi tribe, which is normally celebrated for three days and ends on July 8. It added that ‘Tuluni’ festival is also called ‘Anni’ which denotes the season of plentiful and is marked with feasts as the occasion occurs in the bountiful season of the year. Another feature of the festival is the exchange of gifts and hosting of meals between betrothed couples and their families, it stated. As the Sumis are known for their ‘bravery and courage,’ yet chivalrous and respectful towards women folks, it expressed optimism that the Sumi tribe would continue to shine in every sphere.
In a related statement, Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN has also greeted the Sumi community on the occasion of ‘Tuluni,’ a festival of great significance that is marked with merry-making through dances, songs, food, thanksgiving and blessings for a bountiful season.
As Tuluni symbolises solidarity, sharing and unity, it expressed hope that the festival is celebrated in its true spirit. As Sumi community is known for their courage, it urged them to continue leading the Naga society in all fronts and promote peace and harmony among the Naga people.
