DC Kohima demarcates ASF infection, surveillance zones

Dimapur, July 6 (EMN): Due to the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) at various locations in Kohima district, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima Shanavas C has banned the slaughter of pigs, import and export of pigs and piglets, and transportation of pigs and pork at infected and surveillance zones.

The DC has demarcated Viswema and 1 km radius as infected zone; Jakhama, Khuzama, Kigwema, Kidima, Kezoma, Phesama, Pfuchama, Mima and Mitelephe as surveillance zones.

Dzülekie and 1 km radius has been defined as infected zone and Khonoma as surveillance zone; Dzürüzu near KMC dumping site (New Meriema) and 1 km radius as infected zone, while Meriema, Old and New Tsiesema, High School Area Kohima as surveillance zones.

ADC Pfutsero bans inter-village transportation of pigs

Meanwhile, ADC Pfutsero, Japheth Woch, informed the inter-village transportation of pigs/piglets (both live and slaughtered) to Pfutsero town or vice versa from Phusachudu village would remain restricted with immediate effect, as recommended by the Assistant Veterinary Surgeon, Pfutsero following reports of unusual death of pigs.

An update from DIPR stated that the pigs from Phusachudu village were found to be affected with high fever and anorexia, while similar reports were also received from Pfutsero town and villages under Pfutsero sub-division. The collection of blood samples of the affected pigs and post-mortem on the carcass had been carried out for further lab testing.

It further informed that any person who intends to slaughter pigs may obtain clearance from the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Pfutsero to ensure that livestock is in good health.
