Nagaland: Agriculture department launches distribution of farm machinery

Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): Agriculture department has launched the agriculture farm machinery distribution under “Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM)” for Kharif 2022 at the office of the deputy director in Dimapur, on June 24.

The additional director of Agriculture, C Peter Yanthan, who launched the agriculture farm machinery distribution, appealed to all beneficiaries to make the best use of the facilities not only for themselves but also share the benefits with other neighboring farmers and the community by way of giving on hire to needy farmers.

Delivering the keynote address, the joint director of Agriculture (SMAM), Medovilie Ladu, has emphasised the importance of increasing agriculture production by using advanced technology, an update from the department stated. He stated that the government of India has taken up activities through central sponsored schemes like SMAM as the agricultural mechanisation plays a vital role in optimising land, water resources, manpower and other inputs like seeds, fertilisers etc to maximise the production and productivity of the available cultivable area and make agriculture a more profitable and attractive profession.

“In Nagaland sustainable agriculture mechanisation can be done in those areas where mechanisation is apt. It will also require appropriate and precision agricultural machinery supported by the latest technology, which the department of Agriculture is currently striving,” Ladu said. He also pointed out that the department is focusing on farm mechanisation by providing user and terrain friendly machines/ equipment to the farmers to boost their income.

He further highlighted some measures the department has taken during the past few years for the growth of the agriculture sector and to augment farmers income.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Hoshito Chophi deputy director of Agriculture, Central Store, followed by technical demonstrations for efficient operation and safe handling of farm machineries by technicians at the Central Store Office, Dimapur. It mentioned that the department of Agriculture will be issuing agricultural machineries to genuine farmer beneficiaries through its district and sub-divisional offices under the department during the current monsoon season.
