NASSA to resume agitation after suspending for 3 days

Kohima, June 20 (EMN): The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) and Joint Action Committee on Monday decided to continue its indefinite agitation starting on Tuesday, after temporarily suspending it for three days.

The agitation was earlier called off temporarily for three working days, starting from June 17, following a request made by the seven-member Parliamentary Committee headed by MLA Dr. Chotisuh Sazo in a joint meeting with the NASSA on June 15.

However, JAC Secretary Sezoto Theyo and NASSA General Secretary, Talirenla announced on Monday that the two bodies had decided to continue its indefinite agitation starting from June 21, as the state government hasn’t responded to its demand of revoking the appointment order of Dr. P.J. Antony (retired officer) to the post of Principal Secretary NLA Secretariat.

It was informed that the decision was taken after a sitting with the chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Monday evening.

On this, the NASSA stated: “However, much to the dismay of the NASSA/JAC, the Committee had failed to convey any concrete response from the Government. Therefore, it was resolved that the agitation will continue till the appointment order of Dr. P.J. Antony (retired officer) to the post of Principal Secretary, NLAS is revoked.”

‘All developmental works inside the office building of the Assembly Secretariat as well as all e-Vidhan-related works will be halted during the agitation period,’ it added.

While maintaining that the nature of agitation will remain the same — ‘pen down strike’ and ‘wearing of black badges’ – the association also said that it will continue to ‘prevent Dr. P.J. Antony from entering the Assembly premises’

The NASSA has been agitating the appointment of the retired officer since June 3.
