Phiro Village Students’ Union celebrates first foundation day

Dimapur, June 20 (EMN): Phiro Village Students’ Union (PVSU) commemorated its first foundation day cum pioneers’ gallery inauguration on Monday at community hall, Phiro village, in Wokha district. 

The programme was held onthe theme ‘Recognise to Revive’ with CJ Ovung, PVSU founding member and first general secretary, as the chief guest and Dr. Lichumo Enie, Principal, Unity College, Dimapur as the theme speaker.

address Khyolamo Tungoe, President, PVSU highlighted the significance of the foundation day and the inauguration of the pioneers’ gallery. He stressed on the importance and the need to identify the pioneers who have contributed towards Phiro community in particular and the Nagas in general.

Theme speaker Dr. Lichumo Enie acknowledged the gathering and expressed his gratitude towards the successful achievements of the pioneers.

Citing few examples of the pioneers and their hardships and struggles, Enie said that pioneers were not super human beings but they were extraordinary people who not only listened but put into practice what they listened.

He highlighted the influx of educated unemployed youths and urged the students to carefully examine the drawbacks. He also said that failure was not the end but to overcome all negative mental challenges.

He added that many students overcome financial challenges, however they strive to excel despite the challenges. He therefore encouraged the students to accept failures and develop self motivation, principle and discipline.

Enie also challenged the students to mark the day historic and urged them to move forward with a call to frame their names among the pioneers.

Chief Guest CJ Ovung in his address stressed for unity and called for strengthening the Phiro community.

He expressed  hope in the quality of modern education and urged the students to strive for excellence. Quoting the words of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he remarked that ‘dreams are not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep’.

Recalling early education, he lauded the early missionaries who recognised the value of education, sanitation and better living conditions. He said that the idea of universal brotherhood and the growth of education had widened the outlook and better economic opportunities which brought tremendous changes in the character and habits of the primitive tribes.

Short speeches was also delivered by Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman, Lotha Hoho and Yanbemo Tungu, Council Chairman, Phiro Village.

In his address, Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman, Lotha Hoho, stressed on the topic ‘work is worship’ wherein he lamented the negligence of one’s own duty in every sector of human life. He therefore encouraged the gathering to work with determination, vision and goals.

Ovung also stressed on the need to promote and encourage local goods and services and revive the practice and use of local dialect.

Yanbemo Ovung, Council Chairman Phiro village, expressed his gratitude towards the PVSU for initiating a historic programme,and identifying the pioneers from Phiro community. He also highlighted the need to maintain unity among the Phiro community and achieving a common goal together.

A special prayer of blessing was dedicated by Rev. Rapvuo Odyuo, Home Evangelist, Phiro.

The programme also witnessed a special number from Phiro Baptist Church Choir.
