Railway Protection Force rescues four minors; apprehends three
Dimapur, June 7 (EMN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway rescued four minors and apprehended three persons during routine checking at different trains and railway stations. An update from the chief public relations officer NFR issued on June 7 informed that the three arrested individuals were involved in human trafficking.
One minor girl was rescued at Guwahati Railway station while a minor boy was rescued from Northeast Express while the officials were on duty. The rescued minors were handed over to Railway Child Line/Guwahati, Childline/Kamrup and Childline/Barpeta for safe custody and further course of action.
In another incident, the officials of railways while on duty, found a minor girl with three male persons at New Maynaguri Railway station sitting in a suspicious manner. After interrogation, the matter was informed to the parents of the rescued girl while the three persons were apprehended suspecting it to be a case of human trafficking.
The update further informed that the RPF train escort parties and staff deployed at stations are vigilant and lookout for suspected persons involved in human trafficking as well as the movement of children in a suspicious manner, travelling alone, without proper guardian, etc.
A new initiative under “Meri Saheli” is said to have been initiated in NFR and is functioning round the clock to make women/child passengers aware about the safety/security and use of helpline no. 139 in case of any exigency.
