Kohima, May 25 (EMN): Magdeline Coaching FC stunned Barak FC 2-1 in a nervy encounter during the league quarter-final match, while A Yhome FC overpowered Aphuyemi FC by a solitary goal in the first match of the ongoing Kohima Super Cup 2022 at Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Kohima on Wednesday.

In the first match between A Yhome FC and Aphuyemi FC, Vilhoubeituo Yhome of A Yhome FC scored the only goal in a lightning-quick 37 seconds from the first whistle, creating a record of becoming the fastest scorer of the tournament. The goal determined the win for his team and upset Aphuyemi FC till the end of the final whistle.

Luck wasn’t on the side of Aphuyemi FC as it could not breakthrough despite several good attempts.

In the second match, Magdeline Coaching FC stunned Barak FC by 2-1 goals, wherein Dupisa Pucho and Kelengol scored for Magdeline Coaching FC, while Baoringdao Bodo scored the lone goal for Barak FC.

Pucho scored the goal in the 15th minute for Magdeline FC from a goalkeeping error of Barak FC keeper Dziesengulie to take the lead. Magdeline kept firm on the lead as Barak FC failed to make much impact in the game.

It was a moment of brilliance from the ISL Odhisa winger Baoringdao Bodo, who headed home a goal in the 80th minute for Barak FC to equalise the score. However, with the match heading for a draw, Pucho had other ideas as he broke the defensive line of Barak FC in the 91st minute to set up Kelengol to score the second goal and register three points for the team.

The win puts Pool-B wide open as each team from Pool-B (A Yhome FC, Magdeline FC, Aphuyemi FC, Barak FC) have won a match each in the league round. With a match remaining, all the teams will need a win to go through to the semi-final rounds, as all the teams have three points each. Yhome FC will face Magdeline FC and Barak FC will play their last league match against Aphuyemi FC.

On Thursday (May 26), New Market FC will take on G-Sports FC at 11:30 am and in the second match, Sechü FC Academy will clash with Hurricane Boys Phesama at 1:30 pm.
