Lotha Students’ Union apprises Bhandari ADC of repeated farmhouse destruction by Assam police

Wokha, May 23 (EMN):
The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) met with the ADC of Bhandari, Rohit Singh on May 21 in connection with the repeated destruction of farmhouses in Yimpang village area by the Assam police.

During the meeting, the administration was told that the student body would continue to extend its support toward protecting their ancestral land, it was informed.

It added that Singh told the gathering that the administration had informed its counterpart in Assam both verbally and through a letter about the repeated destroying of structures far away from disputed area belt (DAB) by the Assam police and compensate the loss incurred, as well as reconstruction of the building.

ADC informed the LSU that a DC-level meeting will be held soon to discuss the Yimpang incident and assure a positive outcome, it was informed.

LSU President Ashanthung Humtsoe highlighted the need to strengthen the border check gate regarding ILP. The student body also made a courtesy visit to Golaghat and met with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Golaghat unit to strengthen their good relationship.

The two units shared general grievances; acknowledged that conflicts were no heard of in their jurisdiction a few years ago, it was informed. AASU Golaghat president Niranjan Sonowal expressed happiness over the visit of LSU members and assured cordial relationship.

The LSU also stated that it would apprise the legislators and government if any untoward incidents take place along the border for quick response to quell any eventualities.
