Foreign investors want to invest in state — Manipur CM

Imphal, May 21 (EMN): Stating that 20 years ago, foreign investors were unwilling to invest in the state, Manipur Chief Minister said that now, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency want to invest in the state due to improved law and order situation.
Singh was speaking during the Anti-Terrorism Day observation at banquet hall of 1st Battalion, Manipur Rifles in Imphal on Saturday.
The chief minister informed that the day is observed every year to remember the death of India’s former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated during a campaign in Tamil Nadu 31 years ago.
Stressing that development and peace go hand in hand, he said, ‘The little development and improvement witnessed in the hills today is because of the cooperation of the people and their desire for peace’.
Explaining the importance of improving public-government relations, he said that over the last five years, the state has been able to create a cohesive relationship among the people with the aid of citizen-centric schemes like Meeyamgi Numit (People’s Day). Now, Meeyamgi Numit will also be held by DCs and SPs at the district level, he added.
He suggested stringent actions against any police personnel found involved in drug cases, including force retirement for drug abusers and addicts in the force.
In his speech, Power Minister Th Biswajit Singh said that terrorism is today, the biggest enemy of civilisation. He further said that by observing the day, the message of peace, humanity and unity in diversity is spread.
The minister further appealed all to join hands, to fight to protect humanity and combat terrorist activities from our soil and to make a meaning observation of the day.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, Th Satyabrata Singh; Ministers Letpao Haokip (Tribal Affairs) and Kashim Vashum (Veterinary); Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLAs, chief secretary, DGP and officials attended the day’s observation.
