Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): The Chief Veterinary Office, Kohima district, observed World Veterinary Day on April 30 at its office conference hall on the theme “Strengthening veterinary resilience.”
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. D Rokozo Dolie, CVO, mentioned that World Veterinary Day is observed on the last Saturday of April every year. He informed that the World Veterinary Day was proclaimed in the year 2000 by the World Veterinary Association with an aim to promote animal health and welfare.
The theme speaker, Dr. Elizabeth Yhome, veterinary surgeon at Veterinary Hospital, Kohima, stated that the theme was a reminder for the veterinarian to be better equipped to handle the daily challenges and crises that might occur in their daily practices. She stated that developing resilience would enable doctors and para-veterinarians to strive better professionally and personally.
As responsible veterinarians, she urged the members to motivate young people to take up the noble veterinarian profession, create awareness to the people about various zoonotic diseases and the importance of vaccination in livestock and pet animals. She added that the best resilient persons were the doctors and para-veterinarians, who during the Covid and post Covid pandemic, had selflessly and tirelessly worked every day to alleviate the pain and suffering of animal livestock and pet animals.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Ketholenuo Metha, deputy director, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Akangnungla, DDDO.
All veterinarians and para-veterinarians of the district attended the celebration.
