Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): As part of the Northeast Festival, in commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Wokha and Zunheboto district administrations in coordination with the department of Youth Resources and Sports organised a walkathon on Monday.
In Wokha, it started from police point to PWD Junction, Tsumang colony, and culminated at Deputy Commissioner Office Wokha. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Wokha, Orenthung Lotha while flagging- off the programme, said Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a celebration of the freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives for the nation and is a yearlong celebration programme initiated by the Government of India.
Lotha said the state government has also entrusted various departments to chalk different activities and programmes as a curtain-raiser. While thanking the students from different schools who have taken part in the event, he said that ‘if you are a good student and a good human being that is a contribution towards our nation-building.’
NCC cadets from Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Wokha, NSS volunteers from Bailey Baptist College, Mt. Tiyi College, and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) took part in the walkathon.
Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali flagged off the walkathon in Zunheboto from K L Chishi junction, an update stated.
The DC said that apart from the race, various other events and schemes are being initiated by the central government, celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence. The event saw good turn out from NSS, NCC, NYKS, Dist Adm, Police, Assam Rifles, Skylark club, Green club, etc.
District administration Longleng also organised a walkathon on Monday. The walkathon was led by Deputy Commissioner Longleng M Shayung Phom and Senior SP Longleng along with 70 participants. The walkathon started from DC hill junction and culminated at Yingli College.
