NE sports week: Nagaland’s archer Edikunu Rikha secures gold medal

Imphal, April 30 (EMN): Nagaland’s archer Edikunu Rikha, from IG Sports Academy Kohima, secured gold medal in individual archery Olympic round recurve women’s category competition on the third day of the ongoing North Eastern Council sponsored week-long Northeast regional sports week on Saturday.
Kilenmeren, Mhathung Lotha, Keneisao Theunuo and Teisovi Lohe secured bronze medal in team recurve men, while Kilenmeren and Ruovinuo Theunuo also secured bronze in mix team recurve. Ruovinuo Theunuo, Kevikieno Rikha, Edikunu Rikha and Rovine Domeh further secured the bronze in team recurve women.
The host, Manipur claimed one gold in team recurve men (A Amarjit, L Yuhenba, W Leonard and M Malemnganba), one silver in team recurve women (Th Swashita, Jenifer P, Y Anupama and Gangmei Languilu) and one bronze in individual olympic round recurve men (A Amarjit).
Assam secured three more gold medals through Sanjoy Boro (individual Olympic round recurve men), Production Borgoyary and Promila Daimary (mix team recurve). Promila Daimary (individual Olympic round recurve women); Mukesh Boro (individual Olympic round recurve men); Production Borgoyary, Sanjoy Boro,Mukesh Boro and Sansula Machahry (team recurve men) secured three silver.
In women’s football, Nagaland lost to Sikkim by 1-3 goals in their match today and will face host Manipur in the first semi final match of the competition at the Khuman Lampak main stadium at 2 pm on Sunday.
The second semi final will be played between Sikkim and Assam at the same venue.
Assam men football team will take on Tripura in the first semi final match of the tournament at 8 am on Sunday. Host Manipur’s men football team, which lost to Tripura by a lone goal of striker Debraj in 2 minute of their match, will face Mizoram in the second semi final match.
In the day’s match, Assam beat Mizoram by a solitary goal from Rakeb Basumatary in the 22nd minute of the aggressive match.
In table tennis (women’s double), Nagaland lost to Assam and Tripura, while the men’s team lost to Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Nagaland will play men and women singles competition on Sunday.
Assam women secured gold (Adrija Sarmah/Liya M Husain) and silver (Akankhya Borpujari/Pratiksha Konwar), while the second and third position of men’s double was also secured by Assam.
