Imphal, April 30 (EMN): Manipur on Saturday was lashed by an early morning storm accompanied by rain, followed by another storm with heavy downpour around 4 pm. However, no human casualties were reported in the storm.
However, the storm accompanied by rain that took place in the morning at around 2:30 am damaged the temporary mess hall set up within the Khuman Lampak sports premises in Imphal, where the NE Regional Sports week is underway.
But luckily, no one was hurt during the incident as only a few workers were staying overnight at the temporary mess hall.
The heavy downpour in and around Imphal in the afternoon affected the normal traffic flow for some time.
Earlier on April 27, in an early morning storm, many houses were damaged across the state including a dozen houses at Okoklong in Noney district.
Many trees were also uprooted or their branches felled during nature’s fury.
Interestingly, one of the oldest trees which was uprooted during the incident at Luker Mayai Leikai in Imphal West district, 10 km west of Imphal, was replanted with the initiative of the locals at the cost of nearly INR one lakh on Friday.
