Manipur: Bishnupur district receives multiple awards

Imphal, April 22 (EMN): Bishnupur district was awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2021 for best performance in the implementation of ‘Promoting excellence in sports and wellness through Khelo India scheme’.

Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom of the state also won Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2020 for successfully implementing ‘Bleed with Pride’ initiative to fight menstruation stigma in Imphal East.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh congratulated both the Bishnupur district deputy commisioner (DC) team and Dr. Waikhom separately.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the award to Lourembam Bikram, DC of Bishnupur district on the occasion of the 15th Civil Services Day observation held under the aegis of the department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.

The Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration was instituted with an aim to recognise the extraordinary and innovative work done by districts or implementing units and central/state organisations for the welfare of common citizens.

DC Bikram said that the achievement has been made possible by the commitment and dedication from all the stakeholders of the district especially the athletes, sports association, officials of various departments and district administration.

He added that the award should be the stepping stone for all to work harder to bring more laurels for the district and the state as a whole.

Prasanta Oinam, district manager of department of Information Technology/Nodal Officer was tasked with the responsibility to collect data of more than 2000 athletes for Bishnupur district.

It may be mentioned that the Khelo India Scheme is a national programme for development of sports, which aims to infuse sports culture and achieve sporting excellence in the country and encourage sports across the country, allowing the population to harness the power of sports through its cross-cutting influence, including holistic development of children and youth, community development, social integration, gender equality, healthy lifestyle, national pride and economic opportunities related to sports development.
