Shokhuvi Railway Station misses launch of passenger train service

Dimapur, April 10 (EMN): Shokhuvi Railway Station which had tentatively scheduled to begin passenger train services from Sunday (April 10) was postponed due to ‘some issue’.

This was informed by Pranjal Bordoloi, Chief Commercial Inspector, Lumding, NF Railway to Eastern Mirror .

It may be mentioned that Shokhuvi Railway Station is already operational for freight terminal with full length goods yard,

Bordoloi added that a road show with traders and business enterprises was also conducted at Dimapur and Shokuvi railway stations on April 9 regarding commencement of loading and unloading operations at Shokhuvi goods terminal.

The road show was led by Senior Divisional Operation Manager (DOM), Lumding along with other railway officials of Lumding Division, NF Railway and attended by the major traders engaged in loading and unloading of stone, cement, pulses, salt and edible oil in the Dimapur region.

Bordoloi also informed that they have informed traders to make used of the railway freight terminal at Shokhuvi as ‘everything is ready ‘.

He added that that Donyi Polo Express train is being tentatively planned to be used for passenger trains.

Bordoloi added that the road show was conducted to spread awareness to traders about the availability of loading and unloading operations at Shokhuvi goods terminal so that traders come forward and make use of the facilities.

The ongoing Dimapur-Kohima new BG railway line project starts from Dhansiri station, which is about 18 km before Dimapur on the main line in between Lumding and Dimapur, and will end at Zubza adjacent to Kohima.

It may be mentioned that there are more than 29 km of tunneling works in the entire project that is being constructed and Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) Organisation is executing the 82.50 km long new railway line project at an anticipated cost of INR 6,648 crore. 

The project includes eight new stations (including Kohima), 24 major bridges, 166 minor bridges, four roads over bridges, 18 road under bridges and 14 limited height subways. The project is expected to be ready by March 2026.

Out of the total stretch, 2.75 km is within Assam area and the rest 79.75 km within Nagaland. The entire project is being executed in three phases — Phase-I: Dhansiri – Shokhuvi (16.5 Km), Phase-II: Shokhuvi – Pherima (28.00 Km) and Phase-III: Pherima – Zubza (38.00 Km) — in terms of target of completion.

It may be also mentioned that Chief Administrative Officer, North East Railways Maligaon, HS Yadav during a review meeting of the project at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall in Kohima on February 10 stated that that phase 2 (28 km) from Shukhovi to Pherima is expected to be completed by July 2023, while phase 3 (38 km) from Pherima to Zubza by March 2026. The 82.5 km BG line project will have eight stations and 20 tunnels covering a total length of 29.30 km.
