Workshop on beekeeping held in Wokha

Resource persons and participants of the workshop on beekeeping in Wokha town on March 31.

Dimapur, March 31 (EMN): Wokha Forest division, in convergence with the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), conducted a workshop on ‘Beekeeping’ at the Forest Colony community hall in Wokha town on March 31. The programme was organised under the aegis of National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, government of India.

An update from the division stated that the resource persons were Nzanbemo K Lotha, apiculture officer and NBHM team member, and Mhathung Tsopoe, horticulture officer and NBHM team member.

It stated that Mhathung Tsopoe deliberated on the pollination role of bees in the environment, while Nzanbemo Lotha spoke on the method for swarming and also the quality of honey and its uses. He also emphasised on the methods for processing and storing of honey.

It added that Renphamo Murry from N Longidang village demonstrated the practical aspects of beekeeping. He also shared testimony on how beekeeping has helped him find an alternate livelihood option.

More than hundred participants including members from JFMC, SHG as well as the public from 18 villages in and around Wokha town attended the programme.

Delivering the keynote address, the DFO of Wokha division, Suman WM Sivachar, enlightened the gathering on beekeeping, while the ACF of Wokha division, Siechutho Katiry, delivered the welcome address.
