Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): Livingstone Foundation International College (LFIC) observed the ‘World Down Syndrome Day’ at the college premises on March 21 with Imsusenla Longkumer as a special guest on the theme ‘We decide.’

The ‘World Down Syndrome Day’ is a global campaign to create awareness about the genetic condition and further signify the uniqueness of such children born with the 21st chromosome which causes down syndrome affecting approximately 6,000 babies every year during birth, an update from the college stated.

Speaking on the occasion, Imsusenla challenged and motivated all to set targets and always be prayerful. She also presented a song which was appreciated by students, faculty and staff, which was followed with an interactive session.

The theme “We decide” was chosen to focus on the right of participation of those living with down syndrome and the theme colours were ‘blue and yellow.’

It stated that basing on the theme, a positive environment was created by decorating the notice board, giving presentations on the significance of the day and making memories by capturing photos with blue- and yellow-coloured flags. The idea behind the theme was to demonstrate that it only takes a human being to connect with another and it is the connection between people that helps in the worst situations.

The programme was conducted by the Psychology department of the college.
