Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): World Oral Health Day held on the theme ‘Be Proud of your Mouth for your Happiness and Wellbeing’, was observed across Nagaland on March 20.
Dimapur: The day was observed in Dimapur by the dept. of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW), Dimapur in collaboration with the Youth Ministry, Thahekhu Village Baptist Church, a press release informed.
Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, district oral health officer under National Oral Health Programme spoke on the theme and informed that besides maintaining good oral hygiene like brushing your teeth twice a day, one must also avoid risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol and intake of too many sugary foods.
Free distribution of toothpastes, toothbrushes, calcium tablets and pamphlets on oral health was carried out after the programme. A total of 170 youths attended the programme.
Kohima: The dept. of Health and Family Welfare also observed the day with Dr. Thorhusie Katiry, mission director (NHM) at SPMU Hall, Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima. He exhorted the gathering on the importance of maintaining good oral health and asked everyone to take care of the oral cavity, the toughest structure of our body by following a healthy diet.
Dr. Meribeni Odyuo, joint director and SPO (NOHP) highlighted that an unhealthy mouth can severely affect every aspect of life. She also stressed on the need for the people, health professionals, schools, government and policy makers to champion the importance of good oral health for overall health.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Theyiephrezo Khimiao, director (Dental).
Tuensang: In Tuensang, World Oral Health Day was observed at Government Middle School (GMS), Ngangpong village under Tuensang sadar block on Monday.
On the occasion, a dental health camp was conducted for the students. Altogether, 54 students benefited from the camp. Toothbrush and toothpaste were also distributed to all the students.
