Dimapur, March 16 (EMN):
The election to fill 13 Rajya Sabha (RS) seats across six states, including Nagaland is just two weeks away but the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) remains tight-lipped about its choice of candidate for the lone seat from the state.

While no political parties in the UDA have officially announced the candidature till date, sources claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering four candidates to fill the lone seat which will be left vacant after the incumbent MP KG Kenye retires on April 2. It added that the party is yet to choose a consensus candidate.

However, neither the BJP nor the UDA and its allies have officially revealed the candidate or even the potential party that might be given the chance to fill the lone MP seat.

Meanwhile, the Returning Officer of biennial election to the council of states, Khruohituonuo Rio, has informed that no nominations have been filed for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland till 3 pm on Wednesday.

The last date of nominations is March 21, while scrutiny will take place on March 22, and last date for withdrawal of candidatures on March 24 (before 3 pm).

In the event of an election, voting will be held in the Conference Hall, Annex Room of the Assembly Secretariat,  on March 31 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes to be done on the same day at 5 pm.
