Dimapur, March 5 (EMN): The 5th Chumoukedima inter-ward tournament, organised by Chumoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) is set to kick off at Chumoukedima local ground from March 7 to the 12th.

The tournament is being held in collaboration with Chumoukedima Town Council (CTC).

During a press conference on Saturday, the president of CTYO, Hovise Naleo said that the tournament is organised once every three years.

The events for the tournament include football for men and volleyball for women. He informed that 13 teams would be participating in the tournament including the 11 wards and two guest teams — Chumoukedima Village Youth Organisation and New Chumoukedima Village Youth Society.

Jacob Zhimomi, minister for PHED and Kashito Yepthomi, Class-1 contractor will be the chief guest and guest of honour respectively for the opening ceremony.

During the closing ceremony, the chairman of Chumoukedima village council, Razouvotuo Chatsu and deputy commissioner of Chumoukedima, Abhinav Shivam, will be the special guests.

Special performances from Musik-A, Alobo Naga School of Music, cultural troupe from Thilixu and Yimkhiung tribe and Cadenza Centre for Music and Arts will also perform during the opening and closing ceremony respectively.

The cash prize for the football champion team is INR 50,000 and INR 30,000 for runner-up. The prize money for the women’s volleyball champion team is INR 30,000 and INR 20,000 for runner-up.

Individual prizes for the tournament include highest scorer, best goalkeeper, best player and best defender in football and best spiker for volleyball. Prize will also be given to the best-disciplined team.

The games and sports secretary of CTYO, Vitouto Kuotsu shared that they are planning to select players from the tournament to participate in the upcoming Dr. T Ao Trophy. He also stated that they are under process to form Chumoukedima Town Football Association and if they are accepted, they will represent Chumoukedima district in the inter-district tournament.
