Zeliang Wrestling Association holds 26th Wrestling Meet

Dimapur, Feb. 22 (EMN): 26th Wrestling Meet and 2nd Under-16 Wrestling tournament of the Zeliang Wrestling Association was held at Ngwalwa village local ground, Peren on February 21.

Iteigong Kauring, PS to Advisor for Water Resources was the special guest and SDO (C), Tsenthungo E Ngullie was the guest of honour, an update from DIPR informed.

In the final match, Nlumrai from Mpai village emerged the champion after defeating Suiriepeu from Peren. Meanwhile, Penachi from Mpai village and Keyigumbe from Ngwalwa village secured third and fourth positions respectively. Altogether, 60 wrestlers from four zones (Southern, Northern, Eastern, and Western) vied for the championship title.

It stated that Iteigong Kauring shared that wrestling was one of the ‘rich legacies’ the present generation has inherited from the forefathers and urged the ‘leaders present to continue promoting the unique history’. He also encouraged the participants to be ‘confident, have self-respect, and be disciplined to excel and achieve success’. It stated that Kauring called upon the members present to ‘promote the spirit of oneness and unity among the community’.
