RPF recovers contraband worth INR 12 crore in one year
Dimapur, Feb. 6 (EMN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered smuggled and contraband goods worth INR 12 crore (approx.) and apprehended 111 people between Jan. 1, 2021 to Feb. 2, 2022.
The smuggled and contraband goods were recovered during regular checks in trains and stations of NFR, a press release informed.
In a recent incident on Feb. 4, the RPF team of Agartala conducted checking at Agartala railway station and recovered three unclaimed packets of ganja weighing about 3.5 kg worth INR 35,000. The recovered ganja packets were handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further action.
Again on Feb. 4, CPDS team of Alipurduar conducted a checking in train No. 13174 DN (Kanchanjunga Express) at New Coochbehar railway station. During the checking, a plastic hand bag containing 22 bottles of liquor, which were kept concealed under a berth of the train was recovered. Later, the recovered liquor worth about INR 1,740 was handed over to OC/GRPS/New Coochbehar for further necessary action.
Meanwhile, on Feb. 2, CPDS team of Katihar recovered 115 bottles unclaimed liquor worth INR 12,400, while conducting a checking in train No. 05707 DN (Radhikapur – Katihar passenger special).
Again, on the same day, RPF and Meri Saheli team of Guwahati conducted joint checking in train No. 15909 DN (Avadh Assam Express) at Guwahati railway station and recovered 129 unclaimed bottles of liquor worth about INR 35,220. The recovered liquor was handed over to the Excise department, Guwahati for disposal.
