Karbi peace accord is for all communities, reiterates KLNLF chairman

Diphu, Sep. 7 (EMN): The chairman of Karbi Longri and NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), P Dilli reiterated that the Karbi peace accord was for all round development of all communities residing in the twin hill districts of Assam and not intended to benefit a particular tribe or community.

Addressing a press conference at the conference hall of Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) on Tuesday the chairman, P Dilli said, “Amidst the support from the masses there are a few social organisations showing their dissatisfaction over the peace accord. They should not take political mileage out of it. The signatories of the six extremist organisations are concerned for not only the development of Karbi people, but also the development of all communities residing in Karbi Anglong. The agreement is for permanent peace in the two hill districts of Assam. It will also benefit those Karbis living in the plain districts of Assam”.

He said, “After the signing of the accord there is the implementing part. We will be pressuring the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), the state govt. and Central government for full implementation of all clauses that are in the accord. The state and Central government should think for the development of the two hill districts and not for the six organisations”.

“For implementation of the accord the signatories of the six extremist organisations are not going to alliance with any political parties or government. There is Joint Monitoring Committee and meetings will be held once every three months. We will be pressurising the Central government to include the clauses of the peace accord in the 125th constitutional amendment to be taken up in the coming Parliament session. Right now, there is no decision of contesting the MAC election”, Dilli stated.

Clarifying the controversy arising over the insertion of 10 seats open for all category to the KAAC, the publicity secretary, KLNLF, Rijak Dera said, “People should not be confused about it. In 10 seats open for all category it does not mean only general communities can contest, but even the ST communities can also contest in these category”. However, it is clear that out of 44 elected seats 34 are purely reserved for ST communities, Dera said.
