In pursuance to the directive of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), the Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhu Küqhakulu (WSBAK) launched a clean election movement (CEM) at Thaheku Village Baptist Church, Dimapur, on Saturday on the theme “My vote, my future”.

WSBAK executive secretary, Pughoto Sema, launched the campaign by reading the clean election movement pledge and offered a prayer to mark the event.

In her keynote address, the convenor of CEM, WSBAK, Kakheli Inato Jimo stated that selling of votes is a sin and urged the believers to be upright in the election system. She also cited the success story of Mizoram clean election campaign.

Tohoshe Awomi, vice president of Western Sumi Hoho (WSH), also encouraged the organisers to emulate the positive outcomes of a clean election campaign. Stating that clean elections could be achieved with active participation of the church leaders, he encouraged everyone to reform the system in order to uplift the society.

Also speaking at the programme, the president of Western Sumi Kukahami Hoho (WSKH), Vihuto Yepthomi, expressed that church leaders have huge responsibilities in changing the minds of the believers towards clean elections.

After the programme, leaders of WSBAK, WSH, WSKH, Western Sumi Titimi Hoho, Western Sumi Students Union, Western Sumi Youth Front and Western Sumi Sports’ Association signed a pledge to practice clean elections.
