Diphu, Aug. 3 (EMN):
In yet another incident, the Forest staff managed to foil the attempt of land grabbers to encroach the forestland inside Daldali State Reserve Forest (RF) under Eastern Rangapahar Range of West division in Karbi Anglong.

This is the second time the Forest staff managed to foil the advance of encroachers to clear the jungles of the forestland. More than 200 people started clearing the jungles, but the Forest staff reached there and intervened.

“There were around 200 people, who came to encroach the forest land. It was around 8 am in the morning, they came with machetes and started clearing the jungles. The Forest staffs of Lahorijan Sub-beat, Account beat, Lahorijan, Tingbangla Sub-beat, Hapjan Sub-beat and Rangapahar Eastern Range Headquarter reached on time and managed to chase them out. The Forest staff warned the encroachers and intimidated them with the law, only then they left the place”, a Forest staff said.

He stated that they would continue to visit the place to find if any fresh encroaching was taking place.

On July 30, villages comprising Lower Hapjan and Upper Hapjan submitted a memorandum to the CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang for immediate action against land encroachers between Hapjan river bridge to Sibunsiba of Daldali reserve forest.

‘The villagers are opposed to the encroachments as they are dependent on the forestland for their daily needs,’ it said.
