Dimapur, May 29 (EMN):
The minor boy, who was physically assaulted by a couple residing in Sematilla colony, is said to be undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dimapur under the care of Childline Dimapur.

A member of the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Dimapur informed Eastern Mirror that a blood transfusion was administered on the boy on Saturday as he was suffering from anaemia; he is out of danger and on liquid diet.

The Dimapur police on Friday arrested a married couple identified as Lipokchuba (husband) and Bendangsangla on criminal charges of physically assaulting a minor domestic helper, and a case registered against them at the Sub Urban Police Station in Dimapur based on suo moto FIR.

The CWC official informed that the accused couple was arrested after a concerned citizen informed about the assault of the boy through Child Helpline Dimapur.

The source said the minor boy was brought to the couple’s house when he was around three or four years old and had been living with them for about 10 years. So, his actual age could be around 13 to 14 years though the exact age could be ascertained only after medical verification.

The official informed that the boy had some fresh injuries on the body as well as marks from old injuries.

The boy has six siblings but were unable to trace them as of now, the source said, adding that he would be sent to one of the Child Care Institutes (CCI) in Dimapur and counselling provided after he is discharged from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the official said they are trying to trace the family members of the boy.

‘Since the child is not from Nagaland, even if the family members were unable to trace, they would verify which state the child belongs to and after that reciprocate the child to the respective CWC; in the meantime, Dimapur CWC would take care of the child,’ the source said.

Police to crack down on individuals behind the video

Meanwhile, Dimapur Police has said that “it is a criminal offence under the Juvenile Justice Act to reveal the identity of a child victim on any media platform”.

“Police enquiry is being initiated to identify the erring individuals behind the video circulation of the victim,” it tweeted.
