Dimapur, May 25 (EMN): Texas-based video game retailer GameStop has unveiled a website showcasing its new project — a non-fungible token (NFT) platform on the Ethereum blockchain.

On the web page, GameStop declares, “we are building a team,” and it features a 3D-animated GameBoy with the words, “Power to the players. Power to the creators. Power to the collectors,” on its display.

For the uninitiated, NFT stands for non-fungible token. NFTs are one-of-a-kind digital assets that represent real-world objects like art, music, in-game items and videos.

Although GameStop has not officially announced anything concrete yet, the page displays a link to an Ethereum address, indicating that the NFT platform could potentially be based on the Ethereum blockchain technology.

On its web page, GameStop states, “We welcome exceptional engineers (solidity, react, python), designers, gamers, marketers, and community leaders. If you want to join our team, send your profile or something you’ve built to: nfteam@gamestop.com.”

Taking a look at the contract source code, we can see “Game on Anon,” links to GameStop‘s NFT page and a dedicated token, GME. This might indicate that GameStop‘s NFTs will be based on Ethereum and utilise Ethereum‘s ERC721 standard (a free, open standard that describes how to build non-fungible or unique tokens on the Ethereum blockchain).
