Northern Maram civil bodies re-impose total lockdown

Imphal, May 27 (EMN): The Northern Maram civil organisations has re-imposed total lockdown in its area in Manipur’s Senapati district bordering Nagaland till June 3 as concerted efforts towards supporting the government’s standard operating procedure that aims to arrest the surge of Covid-19 cases in local populace.
According to the source, the restrictions include a complete halt of mass activities including construction of houses, vehicles that engage in quarrying sand, stone, wood, etc.
Movement of private vehicles will be restricted without valid reasons, shops to remain closed, local task force consent to be sought to attain unavoidable circumstances.
Local responsibility assumes more significance in its local area, as Northern Maram region is considered an important intersection where many tribes and people from various walks of life from Senapati district and the state as a whole passes through. Notably, National Highway-2, the state’s lifeline, runs through the centre of the region.
The announcement to re-impose the total lockdown came a day after Senapati district reported 147 new Covid-19 positive cases in 24 hours. However, the district authorities said that the report was a combined testing report of five to six days.
On Thursday, the district reported 24 fresh cases.
