Nagaland records highest single-day spike of 338 Covid-19 cases; tally rises to 16890

Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): Nagaland recorded 338 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, which is the highest single-day spike in the state since the pandemic outbreak began last year; pushing the state’s active cases to 3297 and tally to 16890.

The minister of Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, updated that out of the 338 new cases, 184 were in Dimapur, Kohima- 87, Tuensang- 18, Mon- 15, Mokokchung- 9, six each in Longleng, Kiphire and Phek, Zunheboto- 3, and two each in Wokha and Peren.

He added that 98 patients – 44 in Kohima, 33 in Dimapur, 18 in Tuensang, two in Zunheboto, and one in Phek – recovered during the same period.

Out of the 3297 active cases, 2964 are asymptomatic, 184 mild, 64 moderate on oxygen, 70 severe on oxygen, five in IC without ventilator and 10 in ICU on ventilator.

In terms of district-wise distribution of active cases, Dimapur has 2169, Kohima- 837, Mon- 89, Mokokchung- 64, Tuensang- 43, Longleng- 22, Kiphire- 19, Zunheboto- 18, Phek- 17, Peren- 16, and Wokha- 3.

Nagaland has also recorded 12,877 recoveries and 154 deaths (nine deaths on Wednesday, out of which 11 have been ruled “not Covid-related”.

3.48 lakh cases recorded in India

Meanwhile, India registered 3, 48, 421 new cases in the last 24 hours, while recoveries during the same period was 3, 55, 338, thus reducing active caseload to 37, 04, 099, according Union Health ministry.

Maharashtra reported the highest daily new cases at 40,956 followed by Karnataka with 39,510 and Kerala with 37,290.

Meanwhile, 4,205 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours with Maharashtra registering maximum casualties (793), followed by Karnataka (480).
