Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): Governor of Nagaland RN Ravi on Wednesday urged the leaders of the state to “shed their political differences in our fight against the pandemic to save our people and their livelihood because both are at high-risk today”.

An update from Raj Bhavan informed that Ravi held a sensitisation-cum-consultation meeting with various political party leaders of the state at Dr. Imkongliba Hall, Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Wednesday, in view of the severity of the second wave of Covid-19 in the country.

Several political leaders, including Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, Lok Sabha MP Tokheho Yepthomi, Opposition Leader TR Zeliang, and Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom attended the meeting.

While reiterating Prime Minister’s advice to make lockdown as the last option, the governor told the gathering that ‘prevention should be the top most priority’ considering “a large number of our people suffering from co-morbidities like heart problems, diabetics and hypertension and the status of the medical infrastructure in the state”.

Ravi also expressed concern over high vaccine hesitancy in the state caused by false rumours and urged the leaders to play their role in encouraging people to shed the hesitancy.

Reminding the gathering that the frontline workers have been undergoing severe stress for over one year and bearing the brunt in the long fight against the pandemic, he said “it is our collective responsibility to do everything possible to boost their morale”.

He also thanked the political leaders for their non-partisan positive approach and constructive suggestions.

Earlier in the meeting, the Health department briefed the gathering on the status of Covid-19 and the preparedness of the state government.

The meeting was also attended by several other political leaders like Naga Peoples’ Front President Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and presidents of NPCC, NCP and NPP, and general secretary of JD(U), among others.
