Dimapur, April 19 (EMN): The Razeba Public Organisation, Kohima (RPOK) held its 23rd general session in Kohima on April 17.
Speaking on the occasion, National People’s Party (NPP) state advisor and former minister Deo Nukhu, shared that starting from the inception of RPO in 1993, the parent body has completed 28 years.
“Over the years, so many gradual changes have taken place in terms of education, road development, social and cultural organizations, leadership at various levels, economic and political affairs, etc, he said adding that in the past, there was a strong sense of unity and oneness amongst the people of Razeba range.
“However, due to modernisation, today’s generation has brought various political ideologies, and people are confused with the future. In order to rebuild our society with better prospects of all-round development, there is a need to organise seminars and workshops at various levels with suitable resource persons. This can help us to have better interactions and understanding amongst our people,” Nukhu said.
He said that because of the growing educational institutions in different towns, within and outside Phek district, and in Kohima and Dimapur, many children /youths receive sufficient quality education at various levels in different disciplines.
Nukhu stressed on the need to encourage the potential youth (boys and girls) to really work hard with dedication in order to uplift the society in the near future.
“The youth also need to develop a habit of reading – whether it’s newspapers or magazines, or books on philosophy or religion, polity, or even fiction – so they can broaden their mind’s horizons,” he said.
He said that educational degrees alone cannot make society progress unless we progress in economic development.
Nukhu encouraged the youth who have not had the opportunity to further their education to go for various vocational trainings such as electricians, plumbers, carpentry and masonry, etc.
“Apart from technical and professional studies, our educated youth should be encouraged to take up any business enterprise or join any company, or even join in some good NGOS to become leaders in managerial capacity, he said.
Further, Nukhu shared the history of Razeba stating that the name was derived from ‘RA’ for ‘Raziemia’, ZE ‘for’ Zelome ‘and’ BA ‘for “Chobama (now Tsüpfüme)’ sometime in 1958.
Subsequently, private ME School started in February 1959 at ‘ Dupazu ‘(the present site of Razeba town) and was taken over by the state government in 1964, he said.
He said that due to frequent border disputes with Manipur in the mid 1970s when TCK Lotha was DC, followed by AM Gokhale, a border magistrate (BM) was posted at Razeba town in the early 1980s, and subsequently, NAP platoon post was also set up.
“Afterwards, the need for setting up of a public organisation was also thought of. In the year 1991, the Razeba Welfare Union was set up with Pazü Paul Dukru as first Chairman. In 1993, the name was changed to ‘Razeba Public Organisation’ (RPO). Later on, RPO units were also set up in the towns such as Pfütsero, Phek, Kohima, and Dimapur.
“Looking back on the condition of Razeba Center way back in 1959, we have seen tremendous changes in many areas of life since the last 62 (sixty-two) years, he said.
RPOK president Darhü Shupao in his presidential address stated that RPOK was not only to safeguard and promote the interest of its members, but it was a platform where one can be a part of the system and work towards the betterment of one’s community.
Kekhwengulo Lea, convenor nomination committee announced the new team of RPOK for the tenure 2021-22. The team will be led by Kekhriezavi Lea as president; Danyi Rhi as vice president; Zhovi Zholia, general secretary; Vipa Domeh joint secretary; Sarhiinyi Shupao, treasurer; M Mosonyi Domeh, finance secretary; Potokho Rume, cultural secretary; Davi Venuh statistical secretary; and Sukho Rume, publicity secretary.
