Dimapur, April 3 (EMN): Chümoukedima public has reaffirmed on ‘one government one tax’ resolution adopted on February 13, 2014, and resolved not to entertain any form of taxation within its jurisdiction.
The affirmation to this effect was taken during a joint meeting of the Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) along with the civil society organisations and Chümoukedima Chambers of Commerce and Traders’ Union (CCCTU) at the NTUCT’s office on April 1.
An update from NTUCT president, Lhousito Khro, and the joint secretary, Aolemba Longkumer, stated that the joint meeting has discussed on the issue of rampant taxation in and around Chümoukedima and resolved to reaffirm the resolution adopted on February 13, 2014, by the citizens of Chumoukedima for “One government, one tax.” The house also resolved not to entertain any form of taxation from the various Naga political groups within Chümoukedima jurisdiction. It also reiterated that actions would be taken as per the 2014 resolutions among the business community whoever violates the order.
While acknowledging the problems faced by different political groups for the freedom movement, the members however noted that random and rampant taxation from the various political groups was only killing the aspirations of the people and impacting heavily on the economy of the people, the statement read.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Chümoukedima Chambers of Commerce and Traders’ Union, Timber Association Chümoukedima, Sand Stockist and Suppliers’ Union Chümoukedima, Boulder Union Chümoukedima, Chumoukedima Town Angami Mechu Krotho, Head GBs’ Chümoukedima town, Chumoukedima ‘A’ Village and NTUCT officials.
