Candlelight vigil held in Dimapur for Lamhainamdi victims

Dimapur, March 26 (EMN): Hundreds of Dimapur citizens gathered at Super Market in the city on Friday evening for a candlelight vigil to honour late Itingwangbe Haikam, Peramhialungbo and Sikamwangbo, who were killed by unidentified miscreants at Lamhainamdi village in Peren district on March 22.

A member of Zeliang People’s Organisation Dimapur said at the programme that the victims were brutally killed at a time when people of Nagaland were waiting for the Naga solution to come and that all right-thinking citizens should condemn such acts.

While stating that all human beings are equal; there shouldn’t be tribalism; and that they are peace-loving citizens, he urged the Nagas to stop gun culture and maintain dignity and harmony.

He appealed to the government to book the culprits and award benefiting punishment at the earliest; ‘if not the government will be solely responsible for any untoward incident in future’.

Zeliang Students’ Union Dimapur representative said that all right-thinking people should condemn this gun culture that had killed three Zeliang brothers.

Zeliang Women Organisation Dimapur representative said that the deceased are not going to return however much they cry. Stating that the incident was a clear case of target killing of innocent people and lack of moral backbone, she said ‘it is not about individual, tribe or community but about humanity’.

The President of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union Dimapur, Sedevilie Angami, described the killing as a crime against the entire Nagas and not just against the victims’ families or Zeliang community.

Leaders from several civil society organisations urged the law enforcing agency to book the culprits at the earliest and serve justice.
