Miscreants open fire at Assam Rifles camp in Noklak

Dimapur, March 9 (EMN): Miscreants reportedly opened indiscriminate fire at the security forces stationed at the International Trade Centre (ITC), Dan in Pangsha under Noklak district in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to sources, the firing came from Myanmar side, targeting the Assam Rifles camp stationed at ITC-Dan in Pangsha at around 2-3 am on March 9. It was informed informed that there was no report of casualty from the firing.
ITC-Dan is about 2 hours drive from Noklak headquarters.
Captain MK Singh of the Assam Rifles based in Tuensang had confirmed about the incident. While no militant groups have claimed responsibility for the firing, Singh said that the security forces are enquiring into the incident and those responsible for the act.
He added that similar firing incident had happened place twice in recent times and there was no casualty.
Meanwhile, the advisor of Prisons, Printing and Stationery and chairman of Noklak DPDB, H Haiying, condemned the firing incident, saying that it deserves condemnation.
According to Haiying, Tuesday’s incident was the 7th time after the establishment of ITC- Dan.
While condemning the incident, he stated that such malicious and cowardly acts should be condemned by all peace-loving citizens.
“Those people with nefarious intend have no place in the peace loving land and such unwarranted and provoking action should be stop once and for all,” he stated in a press release.
Haiying stated that the present government is working tirelessly to make ITC-Dan a trading hub for the two nations and that the aspiration can turn into reality only when peace prevail in the region.
The ITC-Dan was established by the government of Nagaland in 1996 for trade and cultural exchange between the two countries (India and Myanmar) and not for exchanging bullets and shedding blood, he added.
He further appealed to the state government to immediately create an administrative headquarters by posting a police station and village guards at ITC-Dan in order to safeguard the life, property and development of the region and area.
