CYF declares 2021 as ‘Year of tree plantation’

Dimapur, March 7 (EMN): Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has declared the year 2021 as ‘Year of tree plantation’ and decided to organise a programme on June 5 coinciding with the World Environment Day.

The decision to this effect was taken during its area tour-cum-coordination meetings with all the affiliated villages, towns, and units which was undertaken from March 2 to the 4th. A CYF’s statement from its president Lhuvesayi Lohe and the general secretary Nyitso Therie stated that resolutions adopted by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and implemented by CYF were highlighted and discussed during the meetings.

It stated villages, towns, and units have resolved to extend full cooperation towards successful implementation of the resolutions.

Resolutions of the CPO and implemented by CYF included restriction on

indiscriminate burning of jungle where defaulters would be penalised with a fine of INR 20,000.

CPO has also banned collection/ extraction of medicinal plants. It cautioned that defaulters would be penalised with a fine of INR 20,000 besides seizure of goods by the concerned authority.

CPO also banned hunting throughout the year and restricted capturing, coursing, snaring, trapping or baiting of any birds or wild animals. It resolved to penalise with a fine of INR 5000 against any person found carrying weapons, explosives, firearms, poison, snares, traps or apparatus capable of anaesthetising, decoying, destroying, injuring or killing of birds and wild animals besides seizure of such equipments/ apparatus.

CPO also banned use of equipment/ apparatus such as batteries, generators, chemicals etc for fishing. It cautioned that defaulters would be penalised with a fine of INR 5000, which could be enhanced depending on the extent of devastation caused besides seizure of such equipment/ apparatus.

Besides, CPO has banned import of pigs/ piglets weighing above 30 kg and decided to impose a fine of INR 20,000 against the defaulters irrespective of quantity. It has resolved to evacuate such pig(s) from Chakhesang jurisdiction within 24 hours otherwise it would be seized by the concerned authority. However, it has allowed import of pigs/piglets weighing below 30 kg for rearing purposes only on production of health certificates from the concerned veterinary department.

Meanwhile, in order to maintain ecological balance in nature, CYF has designated Kapamodzu and Zanubu as biodiversity reserved forest. It has restricted logging, indiscriminate burning or any other activities that could disturb the natural habitat. It appealed to the public to abide by the resolutions passed by CPO and implemented by CYF for the welfare of the community. All presidents of the concerned sub-ordinate area, town, village youth are requested to implement the resolutions within their respective areas.

CYF has further expressed gratitude to all the villages, towns, and units for the cooperation and making the tour-cum-coordination meetings a success.
