Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): The sustainable development goals co-ordination centre (SDGCC) of the state’s Planning and Co-ordination department has announced a campaign called ‘Nagaland for Green Christmas’, in its bid to encourage a more eco-friendly celebration of the most important festival for an overwhelming majority of the citizens.

According to a DIPR report on Monday, the key objective of this campaign is to align Christmas celebration to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals dissemination “and spark action among the general public in Nagaland for making this Christmas and beyond, sustainable”.

It stated that ‘Nagaland for Green Christmas’ is the need of the hour “primarily because, while it is the most wonderful time of the year, it is not the most environmentally-friendly”.

“The festive season is traditionally the period of peak consumption across the state. With a little know-how, we can actually host a state-wide sustainable and eco-friendly Christmas. From the type of tree we buy to the food we eat, everything – no matter how big or small – can make a huge difference. The key is to incorporate small changes and considerations into our normal routine — think about the items we buy, how we use them and how we dispose them as well,” it added.

The SDGCC has opened a ‘Nagaland for Green Christmas Contest’, which would be taking applications from November 23 to December 26.

Residents of Nagaland can apply by sharing 1-5 photographs and one video of not more than a minute to showcase the best practices of how they are celebrating a Green Christmas. The same may be also shared on social media platforms with #NagalandForGreenChristmas.

The applications are divided into two categories: first, 16 years and above and second, 15 years and below. Those interested in this contest can log in to: https://bit.ly/37wzSr9

Apart from this, the ‘Nagaland for Green Christmas Pledge’ form is also active from November 23 to December 19, to encourage citizens to adopt sustainable actions, this Christmas and beyond.
