Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): Observing the raids being carried out by the police following legal procedures, Superintendent of Police (SP), Noklak Dr. Pritpal Kaur said that the real reformation of persons into drug addiction must be dealt in an innovative approach where they can move ahead in their lives and career after completing their treatment.

She opined that providing skills training would help them earn their livelihood and also generate income for their families.

Dr. Kaur was speaking at a seminar on ‘livelihood and skills training’ conducted for persons undergoing de-addiction and rehabilitation in Noklak, an update received here on Thursday informed.

The programme was organised by the Noklak police in collaboration with the department of Agriculture, Noklak, Khiamniungan Baptist Church Association and OST centre conducted on September 19, to motivate persons undergoing de-addiction and rehabilitation.

With a long history of the drug menace in Noklak, the SP mentioned that it was on the agenda list of the Noklak police to help out people from the problem of drugs. “Khiamniungans are very talented and they should overcome these hurdles,” she said.

Kaur, who is also a doctor helped in counselling and providing OST treatment to persons under rehabilitation.

Farming and livelihood skills make everyone self-sufficient so it can also help those persons who will be finishing their treatment soon, she added.

“We can’t lose our youth just because of drugs,” said Dr. Kaur while encouraging the participants to be self-dependent.

Changing one’s mindset in the right direction may help the society to grow in all domains of economy and self-sufficiency, she maintained.

While giving training on apiculture, vermin-compost and farming, Cholen from Agriculture department said that there is no culture without agriculture since it’s the main source for every society.

He explained that vermi-compost and honey bee rearing are among the easiest and most cost effective skills which does not require big farm lands and provides good earning too. The techniques of bee-keeping and vermi-compost were instructed along with marketing.

OST TI project manager J Khumong, in his speech, said that the seminar is a first of its kind where innovative and new step towards livelihood are being taught, therefore, he encouraged the participants to learn and earn their livelihood in the best way they can.

“One should try to reduce intake of drugs in a gradual manner and then start their career with new energy and positive vibe,” said Khumong. He also distributed medicines to them.

Short speeches were also delivered by Thang Village Council chairman, TRPO president and KBCA finance secretary.
