Mokokchung, July 3 (EMN): One person said to be involved in the shooting and killing of a dog at Changki village in Mokokchung district has been arrested.
The superintendent of police, Mokokchung, Vishal Chaudhan, informed in an update that the police have also seized the gun used to kill the dog.
According to him, a suo moto case was registered at Mangkolemba police station on July 2, based on information received in connection with the incident through print and social media.
He reiterated that shoot-at-sight order against dogs is a clear violation of the order issued by the deputy commissioner, which is liable for legal action under section 428/429 IPC and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
The SP added that taking cognisance of the incident, a regular case has been registered at Mangkolemba police station vide Case No.001/2020 under section 429/188 IPC R/W 11(1) Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. During the investigation, it was established that a 12 Bore SBBL gun was used to shoot the dog, and accordingly the arms and the empty shell was seized and is under the police custody for further investigation, the update informed.
