Mokokchung, June 2 (EMN): A first information report (FIR) has been filed at Mangkolemba police station in Mokokchung district, in connection with the shooting of a dog at Changki village on June 30.
The dog succumbed to the injuries on early Thursday morning.
A press release from the deputy commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung stated that a case has registered under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
As per information received from superintendent of police, Mokokchung, the case is currently under investigation.
According to the DC, strict legal proceedings shall be initiated under section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, against any village authorities/ward authorities/individuals/groups acting in contravention to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
SPCA Mokokchung condemns killing of pet dogs at Changki village
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Mokokchung expressed dismay at the recent ‘cruel and inhuman’ killing of a pet dog at Changki village in Mokokchung district on June 30.
“We condemned in the strongest terms the heartless killing of pet dogs that are innocent and guilty of no crime or offence,” the SPCA stated.
Office of the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung on May 22 issued an order declaring that shoot-at-sight order on dogs as a punishable offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCAA) 1960 and the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board of India.
The SPCA expressed hope that the district administration will take appropriate action under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the PCAA against the culprits who have acted in violation of the order.
