Stranded Nagas in Manipur leave for home

Kohima, May 29 (EMN): A total of 20 Nagas from Nagaland, who were stranded at Yairipok in Thoubal district of Manipur, left for Dimapur today at around 9:30 am.

This was informed to Eastern Mirror by the president of All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) Joseph Adani. He said that they were informed by the members from Mon district that around 20 Nagas were stranded in Manipur.

“They were labourers working in an industry, so we went and interacted with them who later expressed their willingness to go back home,” he shared. He also shared that after seeing their condition, they extended some kind of relief.

He also informed that they met with the nodal officer of Manipur, Arthur Chiphang. After receiving positive response from him, they made the stranded Nagas pass through on Friday. He informed that the transportation and other necessary arrangements were taken care of by the industry owners.

“From our side, we extended some relief materials and pocket money to everyone,” Chiphang said.

He also informed that there are still 26 stranded Nagas in Manipur, who have reached out to them. He added that they are making every effort to ensure they go back to their district within 2-3 days. He informed that the 26 people, who reached out to them, were from Wangjing at Thoubal district in Manipur. Informing that they were also labourers, Chiphang said they are looking into their condition and trying to fulfil all the formalities for their safe return.

He further mentioned that they are expecting more stranded Nagas to reach out to them in the coming days and added that if there are any Naga brothers and sisters stranded in Manipur, they are ready to extend their help.
