Mock drill on Covid-19 preparedness conducted in districts
Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): Longleng district task force comprising medical staff, administration, police, and Fire and Emergency Services conducted a mock drill on Monday at the Covid-19 hospital, to test the preparedness in handling emergency situation in the event of Covid-19 outbreak in the district.
The aim in conducting the exercise was to review the Covid-19 response plan and containment strategy and also to improve co-ordination with various government resources, manpower, logistics, and communication, an update from chief medical officer informed.
The mock drill started with a patient showing symptoms associated with novel coronavirus, swab sample collection, sending of sample to the testing centres, handling of patient, quarantine of relatives, and handling of deceased patient.
The exercises witnessed development of the actual resources personnel like medical workers, trained volunteers, security personnel, machineries and equipment like trucks, ambulance, and protective gears.
Later, Medical Superintendent Dr. Lhouvizotuo Belho held a review discussion wherein he pointed out lapses and gave suggestions.
Meanwhile, Mock drill simulating treatment and subsequent death of Covid-19 patient in the ward and the protocols to be followed in such scenario was conducted at District Hospital Dimapur on Saturday.
During the exercise, doctors, nurses, and health workers strictly followed the guidelines of donning and doffing PPE — hand hygiene, shoes, hairnet, gloves, gown, mask, goggle, cap gloves, informed an update from the DIPR.
Doctors from Dimapur District Hospital informed that that are four teams divided into A, B, C and D with a team leader for each group. Mock drills and PPE donning and doffing practice are conducted daily team-wise, as per Covid-19 duty roster, doctors informed.
