Zunheboto school knocks on government’s door

Kohima, March 8 (EMN): Anxious at closing down the only high school in Ighanumi
village by landowners; the village leaders, student body, and School Management
Development Committee (SMDC) have sought the department’s immediate
intervention.
Classes for the academic session, which started on February 12, are running without sufficient facilities in an old school building, according to the school authority.
All classrooms and offices of the new building of the Government High School (GHS), Ighanumi, under Pughoboto subdivision in Zunheboto district, was reported to have been latched by landowners since January 4, 2020. In their “final representation” to the department, the landowners wrote: “We will not allow GHS to have its next academic session in our land with effect from January 4, 2020.”
The landowners decided to lock the school following the department’s failure to appoint a landowner to the Grade-IV post (one) in the school, the representation stated.
When construction of the new high school building started in 2010, a declaration was made between the village council and the landowners, according to Kihoto Zhimomi, Gaon burah(GB) of Ighanumi village. In that meeting, it had resolved to “prioritise Grade-IV post (one) to the landowners”, he said.
The GB along with the village council chairman, president of Ighanumi Student’s Union (ISU), and a member of SMDC, on Sunday, expressed grave concern for the welfare of the students while addressing a press conference in Kohima. It appealed to the department to look into the matter at the earliest.
