Dimapur, Jan. 25 (EMN): Former Nagaland chief minister SC Jamir is among the 16 eminent personalities conferred with the Padma Bhushan awards on the occasion of India’s 71st Republic Day.
The 88-year-old Congress leader has also served as the governor of Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.
A statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs informed on Saturday that former defence minister Manohar Parrikar (Posthumous), world badminton champion P V Sindhu, industrialists Anand Mahindra and Venu Shrinivasan, Bangladeshi foreign service officer Syed Muazzem Ali (Posthumous), and Jammu and Kashmir politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig were among the recipients of the prestigious award for distinguished service of high order.
Meanwhile, seven personalities — former union ministers Arun Jaitley (Posthumous), Sushma Swaraj (Posthumous) and George Fernandes (Posthumous), Olympian boxer MC Mary Kom, former Mauritius prime minister Anerood Jugnauth, classical singer Channulal Mishra and Vishveshateertha Swamiji Sri Pejavara Adhokhaja Matha Udupi – have been honoured with the Padma Vibhushan.
The home ministry has also announced that 118 people have been given the Padma Shri awards.

Nagaland is proud of his exemplary service and accomplishments,” Rio tweeted on Saturday soon after the home ministry announced the list of Padma awards.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton also took to social media to congratulate Jamir on receiving the award, saying, “We take pride in Dr. Jamir’s achievements and the well deserving honour”.
